Leo Buscaglia. A man who inspired me since I was young. My mom used to always keep PBS on in the house, especially when I was home and one day I just happen to walk in and hear a broadcast of Leo on the TV. Even at a young age, I knew what I was watching and listening to was important. I would highly recommend reading his books or watching his programs. “Loving Each Other” from 1984 would be top of my list. Sadly Leo passed on back in 1998.

His seminars would last about an hour most of the time, but the line that formed after for hugs would usually take twice that long. Leo would spontaneously hug people, even strangers. Human touch can mean more than any of us know to another person, or even ourselves. I know what a hug means to me, and it can change from one moment to another, and from one person to another.

I challenge you today… Hug someone! Be spontaneous.

April 13th of 2010 … almost 7 full years ago I lost my big brother. My family has never been really close but we have our moments, like all families. My oldest brother Brian was different. He had a heart bigger than himself and really made an effort to connect with his family, especially before he fell ill. He and I were close, and I have many amazing memories that I will hold forever, or at least until I pass on. I share this loss with my older sister Linda and remaining older brother Ray. Sadly, we are not as close with each other as we all were with our eldest sibling. Although at different levels of dysfunctionality, there is always hope.

It is National Siblings Day so take a moment and remember them, those who have passed on and those still within arm’s reach. Not all memories are meant to be good, but remember that it is those memories that made you who you are today.
