April 13th of 2010 … almost 7 full years ago I lost my big brother. My family has never been really close but we have our moments, like all families. My oldest brother Brian was different. He had a heart bigger than himself and really made an effort to connect with his family, especially before he fell ill. He and I were close, and I have many amazing memories that I will hold forever, or at least until I pass on. I share this loss with my older sister Linda and remaining older brother Ray. Sadly, we are not as close with each other as we all were with our eldest sibling. Although at different levels of dysfunctionality, there is always hope.
It is National Siblings Day so take a moment and remember them, those who have passed on and those still within arm’s reach. Not all memories are meant to be good, but remember that it is those memories that made you who you are today.
